About

Update 30th August 2024 Finally upgraded this blog. Some old, and now irrelevant posts have been deleted., posts from two earlier websites included, and new material added. There is still quite a way to go. As yet, there are no ‘technical’ articles (electronics, engineering, or software) but these will be added in time. Meantime please regard this Blog as a ‘WIP’ – a Work In Progress’, as more, much more will be added soon.

A ‘quiet’ word about WordPress. In the past, and to date, I write my web material in HTML5. WordPress have seen fit to abandon a large part of support for their ‘classic’ editor, and chosen to foist in it’s place the ‘Gutenburg’ editor. That’s OK for those folks who just want to ‘produce’ pap for consumption. I’m minded of the song ‘Little Boxes’ – one verse particularly:

There’s a green one and a pink oneAnd a blue one and a yellow oneAnd they’re all made out of ticky-tackyAnd they all look just the same’

I do NOT want my website to ‘conform’ to some unknown’s idea of what is acceptable..My perspective is that the ‘Gutenburg Block Editor’ is an abomination. [End of rant]

Update 1st December 2020. After several bad experiences with two other web-hosting services, I’ve decided to return to WordPress as an experiment. joesportugal is no longer about a search for a house. Certain posts already record the finding of a lovely home, a lovely companion in the form of The Seth Lord (my dog) and various other stuff. I hope to retrieve and re-publish old material from previous blogs, plus latest technical development on MIDI controller and synthesizers.

joesportugal is about my search for a new home in Portugal. The blog will cover the places and people of Central Portugal, the lovely homes I investigate, and the not-so-lovely. I also hope to include many photos of the area, and my own photos of the houses I visit, in order to compare these with the ones shown in Agent’s adverts.

On the way, I hope that everyone finds the information I post useful, informative and entertaining.

Update 12th May 2015.

This Blog didn’t turn out to be either what I had planned, or what was promised above. Rather just a disparate collection of photographs and musings. The main problem was the almost impossible task of updating it – using the appallingly-slow public WIFI access in Miranda-Do-Corvo. At times it was barely possible to access my email, never mind provide extensive coverage of houses I was shown and places I visited.

The period of time I was searching for a home was relatively short, and I moved into my new home in Tabuas in December 2012.
